Groundbreaking independent films weave together stories to give a unique perspective on the subtleties of everyday life, forming a colourful mosaic of a bigger picture – one that remains untouched and untold by mainstream movies.

One pioneer of such films is the incredibly talented, multi-award-winning, London-based filmmaker Adam Shamash, who I recently spent time with in Dubai. Anyone who has met him will know he has a presence and spirit that shines through in every conversation.

Check out this Baraka Blue video created by Adam:

At the same event I had the good fortunate to meet his wife Iona, who needs her own paragraph!

The belief that art has the power to heal, unite, transform and uplift is exemplified by the brilliantly gifted artist Iona Fournier-Tombs. Her meticulously crafted and inspiring geometric artwork bursts with vibrant colour and has the amazing ability to create a feeling of tranquility, delight and awe. She thoughtfully creates each piece with great care and pours her heart and soul into every project she approaches, often involving others in interactive public artworks.

Watch a mesmerising time-lapse video of Iona creating one of her works:

Together this impressive creative duo have a beautiful and illuminating future together. I look forward to seeing what else they can create individually and collectively, insha’Allah.
